Quantitative Trait Loci Associated with Drought Tolerance in Common Bean

چکیده
Drought stress is the major limitation of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) grown in subsistence farming systems worldwide. The objective of this study was to use single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers from the BARCBean6K_3 Beadchip to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with traits related to drought tolerance in common bean. An intergene pool recombinant inbred line (RIL) population from a cross of drought tolerant line SEA5 and CAL96 cultivar was evaluated in Rwanda for 3 yr under drought stress and nonstress and in Colombia for 1 yr under drought stress. Traits evaluated included the numbers of days to flower, maturity, and seed fill; harvest index and pod harvest index; yield and yield components including number of pods per plant, seeds per pod, 100 seed weight (SW), and seed yield per day. Harvest indices, and SW were stable regardless of water treatment while number of pods per plant, seeds per pod, and yield were significantly reduced by drought. A linkage map of the RIL population spanning 1351 cM was constructed using 2122 SNP markers. The map covered all eleven bean chromosomes with an average distance of 0.64 cM between markers. A total of 14 QTL for performance under drought were consistently identified in different environments. Quantitative trait loci associated with phenology and SW traits mapped near previously reported QTL. Linkage between SW and yield QTL SY3.3SC was observed on Pv03 and could be used to simultaneously select for seed yield and size in intergene pool crosses of common bean. G. Mukeshimana, and J.D. Mapping QTLs for drought tolerance in a SEA 5 x AND 277 common bean cross with SSRs and SNP markers
The common bean is characterized by high sensitivity to drought and low productivity. Breeding for drought resistance in this species involves genes of different genetic groups. In this work, we used a SEA 5 x AND 277 cross to map quantitative trait loci associated with drought tolerance in order to assess the factors that determine the magnitude of drought response in common beans. A total of ...
متن کاملMultienvironment Quantitative Trait Loci Analysis for Photosynthate Acquisition, Accumulation, and Remobilization Traits in Common Bean Under Drought Stress
Many of the world's common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) growing regions are prone to either intermittent or terminal drought stress, making drought the primary cause of yield loss under farmers' field conditions. Improved photosynthate acquisition, accumulation, and then remobilization have been observed as important mechanisms for adaptation to drought stress. The objective of this study was t...
متن کاملGenome-wide Association Analysis for Drought Tolerance and Associated Traits in Common Bean.
A genome-wide association study explored the genetic basis of variation for drought tolerance and related traits in a Middle American diversity panel comprising 96 common bean ( L.) genotypes. The panel was grown under irrigated and rainfed conditions and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data were used to explore the genetic diversity and ancestry of the panel. Varying levels of admixtures ...
متن کاملIdentification and Mapping of Quantitative Trait Loci Associated with Salinity Tolerance in Rice (Oryza Sativa) Using SSR Markers
Salinity stress is one of the most widespread soil problems next to drought, in rice growing areas. ReducingSodium (Na+), while maintaining Potassium (K+) uptake in rice are traits that would aid in salinity tolerance. Therefore, the identification of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with those for Na+ and K+uptake, will enable breeders to use marker-assisted selection...
متن کاملMorpho-Physiological Characterization Related to Drought Tolerance of Common Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris L.) Genotypes
Drought is one of the limiting factor in common bean, development of common bean varieties that adapted to drought situations is the main focus for improving food crops. In this study, 25 genotypes of common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were grown under drought stress and non-stress conditions. The field work was conducted at Melkassa Agricultural Research Center during the off-season that lai...
